Archbishop Carroll vs. Coral Gables Game Preview: High School Football Results, Scores Update

Tactical Breakdown: South Florida Speed and Blitz Packages

South Florida high school football is a different breed, characterized by blinding team speed and elite perimeter play. Today’s matchup between the Archbishop Carroll Bulldogs and the Coral Gables Cavaliers is a perfect exhibition of contrasting tactical approaches. Coral Gables brings a rich tradition of physical, ground-and-pound football combined with aggressive press-man coverage on the outside. The Cavaliers want to impose their will offensively, running power-O and isolation plays out of standard I-formations and offset pistol sets. They dare you to stack the box, trusting their offensive line to generate a surge.

Kickoff: Thursday, Sept 3, 2026

Archbishop Carroll’s defensive coordinator knows this, and the Bulldogs will not sit back in a passive zone. Expect Carroll to employ an aggressive 3-3-5 stack or a 4-2-5 alignment, utilizing exotic zone-blitz packages to confuse the Coral Gables offensive line. By sending cornerbacks on boundary blitzes and dropping defensive ends into the shallow flats, Archbishop Carroll aims to create negative plays on early downs. Offensively, the Bulldogs run a high-tempo spread. They will look to tire out the heavier Coral Gables defensive front in the South Florida heat by utilizing a no-huddle tempo, snapping the ball every 15 to 20 seconds.

The X-Factor: Secondary Play and Heat Exhaustion

Coral Gables’ cornerbacks love to play on an island. They will press Archbishop Carroll’s receivers at the line of scrimmage, utilizing their hands to disrupt timing routes. If the Cavaliers can lock down the outside receivers without safety help, they can drop an extra man into the box to shut down the Bulldogs’ run game. However, if Archbishop Carroll’s receivers can execute double-moves and win off the line of scrimmage, the entire Coral Gables defensive scheme will have to loosen up. Conditioning is also a massive factor; whichever offensive line is still firing off the ball in the mid-fourth quarter will walk away with the victory.
