Tactical Breakdown: Anne Arundel Discipline vs. Baltimore County Speed
This central Maryland clash between the North County Knights and the Overlea Falcons provides a classic contrast in offensive design and defensive deployment. North County operates out of a modernized pistol-option framework with heavy two-back sets. The Knights depend on offensive line cohesion, utilizing combo blocks on interior defensive tackles before peeling off to engage linebackers at the second level. When their inside zone game is working, North County forces defensive coordinators to cheat their strong safety into the tackle box, unlocking play-action bootlegs and tight-end seam routes down the hash marks.

Overlea counters with an aggressive, vertical spread identity built on explosive athletes in space. The Falcons run an up-tempo system that limits opposing defensive substitutions. Their quarterback operates primarily out of empty and single-back shotgun formations, using packaged RPOs (Run-Pass Options) to read the conflict defender. If the boundary linebacker takes a single false step toward the running back, Overlea pulls the trigger on quick bubble screens, tunnel screens, or five-yard slant routes. Defensively, Overlea plays an aggressive 3-3-5 stack, relying on hybrid rover safeties to disguise pre-snap coverage between Cover 1 man-free and inverted Cover 2.
Trench Warfare & Game-Deciding Factors
The defining battle of this game takes place in the trenches on early downs. North County’s center and offensive guards must win the leverage battle against Overlea’s penetrating three-technique defensive tackles. If Overlea gets immediate interior disruption, North County’s timing at the mesh point is ruined. On the other side, Overlea’s offensive line must protect the edges against North County’s athletic defensive ends. If the Knights generate a clean pass rush using only four rushers, they can drop seven men into passing lanes, taking away Overlea’s intermediate crossing routes.
